Educational institutions directed to ensure cleanliness to prevent dengue

Staff reporter:

Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) has directed all educational institutions across the country to ensure cleanliness and overall discipline to prevent dengue.

Classrooms, office rooms, corridors, rooftops, toilets and the surrounding areas of educational institutions must be kept clean regularly, while any stagnant water must be removed promptly.

In a directive issued on October 18, heads of educational institutions were requested to take these measures. The directive described the matter as extremely urgent.

The directive stated that, as part of visits to various hospitals, educational institutions and residential areas of government officials and employees in Dhaka city, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman recently made surprise visits to several establishments, including Rajuk Uttara Model College, Mirpur Cantonment Public School and College, and Mirpur Bangla College.

Against this backdrop, the authorities have instructed all educational institutions in Dhaka city and across the country to take necessary measures to ensure a clean environment and overall discipline.

The directive further stated that educational institutions must regularly check for stagnant water on their premises. Alongside removing stagnant water promptly, effective measures must be taken to destroy mosquito breeding grounds and prevent dengue.

It also instructed institutions to conduct dengue awareness activities involving teachers, students and staff. At the same time, they were asked to ensure a hygienic environment, overall discipline and necessary administrative preparedness.

The directive, signed by Professor Md. Nazmul Haque, director (college and administration) of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, was sent to the directorate’s regional directors, principals of government and private colleges, head teachers of schools, district education officers, and upazila and thana secondary education officers.
