BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Friday alleged that the government has filed fictitious cases against BNP leaders and activities in order to steal votes and remain in power.
The BNP leader said this while he was produced before a Dhaka court on Friday afternoon.
BNP has no need to carry out violence. Hundreds and thousands of people gathered at the BNP rally, ignoring all the obstacles, he added,
Amir Khasru told the court: “Honourable court, the case filed against me is not the first fabricated case. Hundreds of such fabricated and false cases have been filed.”
A Dhaka court placed BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Convener of BNP Media Cell Jahir Uddin Swapan on six-day remand each in a case lodged over the murder of police constable Amirul Islam Pervej on October 28.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jaki Al Farabi passed the order as police produced the duo before the court and pleaded to place them on a 10-day remand in the case.
Chowdhury was picked up from a flat in Gulshan in the wee hours of Friday, while Swapan was detained from Gulshan last night in connection with the case.
Constable Pervej, 32, was brutally killed allegedly by the leaders and activists of BNP during their grand rally in the capital’s Naya Paltan area on October 28.
Paltan police station Sub-Inspector Masuk Miah on October 29 filed the case against 164 people, making BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam as the prime accused.
