Mymensingh Zila Parishad has launched a cleanliness drive and distributed awareness leaflets in the city to raise public awareness about dengue and measles.
Zila Parishad Administrator Syed Emran Saleh Prince, Chief Executive Officer Shah Kamrul Huda, Executive Officer Snigdha Das and other officials and employees began a procession from the council office in the morning.
They distributed leaflets on dengue and measles prevention and took part in cleanliness activities at different locations, including the Divisional Commissioner’s Office, Batir Kal intersection, Judge Court intersection, Town Hall intersection and Kashikishore District Council Staff Quarters.
Fogging machines were also used to spray insecticide to control Aedes mosquitoes.
Syed Emran Saleh Prince urged city residents to keep their homes and surrounding areas clean, stressing that preventing stagnant water and maintaining regular cleanliness are essential to controlling dengue.
“Experts say the dengue outbreak is likely to increase across the country in September and October. Everyone must remain alert and take preventive measures against Aedes mosquitoes during this period,” he said.
He said the Zila Parishad would conduct a three-month cleanliness drive and distribute awareness leaflets. The initiative will cover the council’s own establishments as well as residential areas and sites of completed and ongoing district council projects, he added.
The Zila Parishad team also inspected cleanliness activities at Kashikishore Zila Parishad Staff Quarters and visited the homes of Parishad officials and employees affected by dengue to inquire about their health and speak with their family members.
Later in the day, Prince inspected ongoing renovation work at the district council dak bungalow in Tarakanda, as well as a district council market and its land at Dhara Bazar in Haluaghat.
In the afternoon, he inaugurated a football tournament at Chourasta in Gazir Bhita Union of Haluaghat.
