Sirajganj: Some 315 active members of extremist organizations in the North-Western part of the country voluntarily surrendered by relinquishing their weapons to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Sirajganj on Sunday.
They are members of Purba Banglar Communist Party (red flag), Purba Banglar Sarbahara Party (MBRM) and Purba Banglar Sarbahara Party (Janajudda).
The extremists from seven districts- Sirajganj, Pabna, Bogra, Meherpur, Kushtia, Rajbari, and Tangail- turned themselves in, handing over 216 weapons in the presence of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal at the RAB-12 headquarters.
Addressing the surrender ceremony as the chief guest, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal assured that the current government is committed to rehabilitating the surrendered extremists fully.
He said, “They will receive the necessary assistance to reintegrate into normal life, including legal sup-port.”
The Home Minister further said that prior to the event, the Prime Minister had conveyed her message, stating, “Those who have abandoned the path of darkness and are returning to the path of light will re-ceive comprehensive support, including financial assistance.”
The government aims to provide a supportive environment for the former extremists to lead a normal life and reintegrate into society successfully, he said.
