Prime Minister Tarique Rahman yesterday put special emphasis on conducting performance audits along with compliance audits to ensure transparency in public expenditures.
He highlighted the importance of performance audits to ensure transparency and accountability in spend-ing public funds to provide various services to the people and to achieve properly objectives of various projects being implemented by the government.
The Prime Minister was speaking at an event where he was informed about the observations and recom-mendations received on 38 audit reports (compliance and performance audits) of various government departments and entities.
On the occasion, Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh Md Nurul Islam submitted the audit report for the fiscal 2021-22 to him at the Prime Minister’s Office at Cabinet Division of the Bangladesh Secretariat yesterday morning, PM’s press wing said.
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Finance Secretary Dr Khairuzzaman Mozumder and officials of the concerned departments were present.
Sources at the Prime Minister’s Office said the audit report is prepared in accordance with Article 128(1) of the Constitution of Bangladesh and Section 5 of the Comptroller and Auditor General (Additional Functions) Act, 1974.
In continuation of this, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of Bangladesh submitted a total of 38 compliance and performance audit reports on 17 ministries and divisions and various directorates, offices, institutions and projects to the Prime Minister before presenting those in parliament.
