President asks to make admin transparent

Staff Reporter:

President Mohammed Shahabuddin yesterday asked the field level officials of the administration to be more dedicated to serving the people with the aim at building a transparent, accountable and humane administration.
“You (DCs) are the direct representatives of the government at the field level . . . You must remember that you, above all, are the servants of the people,” he told the DCs as they gathered at Bangabhaban this evening as part of the ‘Deputy Commissioners (DCs) Conference-2026’.
The Head of State told the DCs that they should regularly spend time listening to the grievances, prob-lems and complaints of the common people and be active in resolving them within the earliest possible time.
Stressing on reaching out fast, easy and quality services to the people’s doorsteps, the President said they should be proactive in ensuring that the activities of all government and private service providers reach the people without any hindrance.
He emphasized on improving the quality of services by increasing the use of information technology (IT), strengthening market monitoring, preventing illegal hoarding and implementing the government’s decisions to address the global energy crisis.
President Shahabuddin respectfully remembered the contributions of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, the brave soldiers and other national leaders of the great Liberation War and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
Recalling the supreme sacrifices of the martyrs of the student-public uprising 2024, he said their (July Martyrs) sacrifice played an important role in re-establishing democracy in the country.
The President said the field administration has demonstrated efficiency, honesty and professionalism in conducting the recent Jatiya Sangsad (JS) polls in a free, fair and peaceful environment, which is com-mendable indeed.
Shahabuddin directed the administrative officials to modernize land management, implement develop-ment projects on time with ensuring the proper use of government funds.
Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner of Mun-shiganj district Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi and Chittagong Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Is-lam Miah spoke at the event.
Secretaries of the President’s Office and senior military and civil officials were present at the event.
