Staff Reporter:

The government is implementing a major initiative to digitise the country’s land registration system through an ICT-based automation project, with the aim of introducing online-based deed registration by 2nd half of 2027 or 1st half of 2028.

In response to a scripted question from opposition lawmaker Md Masud Parvez (Chuadanga-1), Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman informed the Jatiya Sangsad that the “Land Registration System Automation” project is currently underway to modernise and introduce information and communication technology (ICT) in the deed registration process across the country.

He said, “In order to introduce the use of information and communication technology in the deed registration system modernisation and digitisation activities, the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs is implementing a development project titled ‘Land Registration System Automation’ from 1 July 2025.”

The minister added that the project is being implemented with full government funding and has an estimated cost of Tk632.69 crore. The implementation period of the project has been set from July 2025 to June 2030.

Describing the scope of the initiative, he said the project will cover nationwide modernization of the deed registration system through ICT integration, software development, system integration, data migration, user training, and overall implementation activities.

He further informed that unified “Registration Resource Planner (RRP)” software is currently under development as part of the initiative to operate the entire land registration system on a modern digital platform.

Expressing optimism about the timeline, the minister said, “It is expected that online-based deed registration will be launched by the second half of 2027 or the first half of 2028.”
