BNP won’t allow any financial indiscipline: Khosru

Staff Reporter:

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury yesterday told the Jatiya Sangsad (parliament) that the BNP’s political stance does not allow any compromise in matters related to economic governance and financial discipline.
“I want to categorically say that whenever BNP assumed office in the past, no question had emerged regarding financial discipline or macroeconomic stability or the share market. So, be assured …,” he said.
The Finance Minister said this while responding to a supplementary question from NCP lawmaker Md. Abul Hasnat (Cumilla-4) during the question-answer session in the House yesterday.
Khosru asserted that whenever BNP has been in power, there were no questions regarding macroeco-nomic stability or financial discipline.
“There has never been any concern about macroeconomic stability or irregularities in the stock market during BNP’s tenure,” he said, adding that the party remains committed to transparency and accountabil-ity in economic management.
The minister emphasized that individuals who took loans from banks and fled the country are being brought under legal action.
“All those who have taken money from banks and escaped are facing cases, and the legal process is on-going,” he stated.
Khosru further said that both government-to-government (G2G) initiatives and private recovery firms are working to recover the siphoned-off funds.
“We have engaged appropriate mechanisms to recover the money. Alongside government efforts, private recovery firms are also working on this.” he added.
Expressing optimism, the Finance Minister said the government expects to successfully recover the funds in the coming days.
He also reiterated BNP’s commitment to ensuring accountability in the financial sector and strengthening economic governance without any compromise.
