A Correspondent:
Tangail: As thousands of people begin returning to the capital Dhaka after the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, the flow of vehicles has surged across the Jamuna Bridge, resulting in a significant increase in toll collection.
Over a 24-hour period, from midnight Thursday to midnight Friday, a total of 3 crore 41 lakh 53 thousand 900 Taka was collected.
According to Syed Riaz Uddin, Executive Engineer of the Jamuna Bridge Site Office, 46,278 vehi-cles crossed the bridge during this period. Of these, 16,222 vehicles were heading toward North Bengal, contributing a toll collection of Taka 1 crore 43 lakh 10 thousand 800.
Meanwhile, 30,056 vehicles traveling toward Dhaka brought in a toll of Taka 1 crore 98 lakh 43 thousand 100.
The bridge authorities reported a high volume of traffic due to the mass return of people from the Eid holidays, which has caused increased pressure on the Dhaka-Tangail highway.
The vehicles are passing through a total of 18 toll booths, with 9 booths operating on each side of the bridge. Motorcycles are being processed through two dedicated booths on each side to ensure smoother traffic flow.
The bridge authority has been working to ensure uninterrupted operations, with the toll booths remaining open around the clock to accommodate the growing number of commuters.
Syed Riaz Uddin emphasized the authorities’ continued efforts to manage the traffic effectively, ensuring that people can travel safely and efficiently despite the high volume of vehicles.
