The 6th death anniversary of poet Al Mahmud, whose poetry inspired freedom-loving people from the 1952 Language Movement to the Liberation War of 1971 and the bloody July mass uprising, was ob-served yesterday.
Al Mahmud enriched Bangla literature through his verses reflecting protest, love, nature and prayer.
He passed away on this day in 2019.
Various social and literary organizations across the country have undertaken programs, marking the an-niversary of the eminent Bangla poet.
Abid Azam, editor of the Al Mahmud-focused organization ‘Kaler Kolosh’, said a commemorative pro-gram has been arranged at the Al Mahmud Corner of Bangla Academy at 4:00 pm yesterday.
Distinguished personalities from the fields of art, literature and culture, along with admirers of the poet, are expected to attend the event.
The program include discussions on the poet’s life and works, as well as recitations and musical perfor-mances.
