The Election Commission (EC) restored the candidature of 60 more aspirants on the sixth day of appeal hearings for the 13th parliamentary election.
The hearings were held at the EC auditorium in the capital’s Agargaon. As per the EC insiders, appeals numbered 351 to 420 were disposed of on the day.
Of these, 60 were approved, 34 were rejected or dismissed, and decisions on 10 appeals were kept pending due to legal complications and the need for further document verification.
With Thursday’s decisions, a total of 337 candidates have regained their candidacy in the first six days of hearings since they began on 10 January. During this period, 115 appeals have been rejected and 33 remain pending.
On the first day, 52 candidates were declared valid, followed by 50 on the second day, with similar outcomes in subsequent hearings.
The EC said appeals numbered 421 to 490 would be heard on Friday, followed by appeals 491 to 560 on Saturday. The remaining appeals, from 561 onwards, would be heard on the final day on Sunday.
In total, 645 appeal applications were filed with the EC seeking restoration of candidacy.
According to the election schedule, the deadline for withdrawal of candidature is 20 January, while symbols will be allocated on 21 January. Election campaigning will begin on 22 January and continue for 19 days, ending at 7:30am on 10 February. Voting for the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election will be held nationwide on 12 February from 7:30am to 4:30pm.
