Seventeen people were arrested along with weapon and drugs in a special drive conducted jointly by the Army and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-2 at Geneva Camp in the capital’s Mohammadpur early Sun-day.
The arrestees were Md Monowar Hossain (24), Md Abid Hossain (32), Md Nur Islam (20), Md Banna (36), Md Abdul Latif (50), Md Alamgir (40), Md Bulu (21), Md Firoz (26), Md Al Amin (20), Md Bhuttu (50), Md Aslam (16), Md Zafar (40), Md Tajuddin (40), Md Masum (38), Md Javed (41), Md Murad (18) and Md Babu (31).
During the drive, law enforcers seized a samurai sword used in mugging and 4.964 kilograms of canna-bis from their possessions.
ASP Khan Asif Tapu, Senior Assistant Director (Media) of RAB-2, said several groups involved in mugging and drug trading have become active in Geneva Camp area.
Based on secret information, a joint team of RAB-2 and the Army conducted the overnight raid and ar-rested them, he said.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the arrestees used to remain in hiding during the day and carry out mugging, drug trading, and other criminal activities at night.
Many of them had served prison terms for similar offenses, he said
