Govt forms body to expedite trail of Jul Uprising cases

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry has formed a seven-member committee headed by an additional secretary to expedite the procedure of the cases filed in connection with murders during the July Uprising in 2024.
The committee will comprise representatives from the home ministry, police, July Shaheed Smriti Foundation, human rights activist nominated by the law ministry and a lawyer nominated by the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation. Deputy solicitor of the public prosecutor wing of the Law and Justice Divi-sion will act as member secretary of the committee, a press release of the ministry said.
The release said, the committee has been entrusted with the duties to work with the cases of July Upris-ing except those are now on trial in the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).
The committee will collect complete list of the cases filed across the country linked to the July Uprising and current status of the cases.
The committee will also find out the problems facing by the prosecution in conducting the cases in which charge sheet has already been submitted, and send recommendation to the government to remove the obstacles.
The committee will inform the affected people and the countrymen time to time about the progress of its activities. It will also recommend the government to ensure safety and security of the victims and wit-nesses.
The press release mentioned that trial of the cases filed with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) is going on properly while the new committee will expedite the trial of the other cases.
