A Dhaka court yesterday showed six people including Salman F Rahman, former private industry affairs adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former law minister Anisul Huq arrested in a case lodged over the murder of trader Atiqul Islam in the city’s Kafrul area during the anti-discrimination student movement.
The four other people, who have been shown arrested in the case yesterday, are former food minister Advocate Qamrul Islam, former state minister for industries Kamal Ahmed Majumder, former inspectors general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun and AKM Shahidul Haque.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Partho Bhadra passed the order as police produced the six before the court and pleaded to show them arrested in the case. The court later sent them back to the jail.
Atiqul Islam was shot and killed behind the BRTA office in Kafrul area in the afternoon of July 19. The case was filed in this connection on December 23 against 40 people including the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Salman F Rahman was arrested from the capital’s Sadarghat area as he was trying to flee the capital along with former law minister Anisul Huq through the waterways on August 13, 2024. Shahidul Haque and Mamun were arrested in separate drives by the detective branch of police on September 3. Advocate Qamrul was arrested from the capital’s Uttara area on November 18, while Kamal Majumder was arrest-ed from the city’s Gulshan area the next day.
