Around 55.51 kilograms of gold worth about Taka 45 crore have been stolen from the volt of the cus-toms transit go-down at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA)here, officials said.
An FIR was lodged with the Airport Thana at 11:45pm on Sunday by Mohammad Sohrab Hossain, As-sistant Customs Officer of the Preventive team of the Dhaka Customs.
According to the FIR, during patrolling on a regular basis, an airport official noticed the lock of a par-ticular volt was broken, and immediately notified it to his senior officials around 9pm on Saturday.
On information, the joint Commissioner along with other customs officials visited the spot and identified that a part of the tin-made volt was cut with a sharp object.
The customs officials later identified that around 55.51 kilograms of gold seized in different drives con-ducted from 2020-2023 were missing from the volt.
OC Azizul Haqu Miah of the Airport Thana confirmed the matter to saying that, “A case has been lodged in this regard and the police are currently interrogating a number of people, and investigating CCTV footages of the area.”
