Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique on Monday formed 26 vacation benches of the Supreme Court’s High Court (HC) division as the apex court went on a 34-day vacation from September 3.
According to a Supreme Court notification a total of 26 vacation benches would operate in two phases while the 15 benches would run in the first phase from September 3 to September 19.
The notification signed by HC Deputy Registrar M. Mizanur Rahman said during the first phase 15 benches would operate and of them, 12 were two-judge benches while three others were single-judge ones.
The notification counted September 20 to October 5 as the second phase when 11 vacation benches would operate – seven being double and four being single ones.
Supreme Court officials said during the entire vacation period Justice M Enayetur Rahim would contin-ue to perform as the chamber judge of the Appellate Division.
The notification appears to be one of the last directives of the incumbent Chief Justice as he is set to re-tire before the resumption of the Supreme Court after the vacation period.
Further details of these benches constituted have been published on the website of the Supreme Court.
