Japanese man held with 11 kg gold at airport

Customs officials arrested a Japanese national along with 11 gold bars, each weighing about 1 kg, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital early Saturday.
Assistant Commissioner of Customs (Preventive team) at the airport Taijul Islam told that Kengo Shibata, 42, landed at the airport by a Regent Airways flight coming from Singapore around 12:40am.
The customs officials intercepted him at the green channel of the airport and recovered the gold worth Tk 5.50 crore searching his body, Taijul said.
Later, they detained the Japanese national and handed him over to Airport Police Station.
A case was also filed in this regard.
