Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) here on Thursday sharply criticized the Election Commission for announcing the schedule for the eleventh general election.
“This is just an arrangement for holding a one-sided election,” said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul after the Chief Election Commission had announced the polls-schedule.
The BNP leader said the government’s desire has been reflected through the announcement of the schedule.
Earlier in the day, an emergency meeting was held at BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in Dhaka to devise the next course of the program following the announcement of the schedule.
Emerging from the meeting, Fakhrul told journalists that the country’s people would never accept such kind of election that does not belong to their dreams and rights.
Earlier on November 5, a delegation of Jatiya Oikyafront met the election commissioners and requested them to hold the polls schedule announcement.
Fakhrul said the schedule for the next general election was announced ignoring people’s hope and expectation.
