‘Drug trader’ killed in ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Bamandanga area of Sundarganj upazila in Gaibandha district early Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Abdus Salam alias Those Salam.
Being tipped-off, a team of Rab raided a house in the area, according to an SMS of the elite force.
Sensing the presence of the Rab team, the drug peddlers fired gunshots to them while the elite force fired back in self-defence, leaving Salam dead on the spot.
Two Rab members were also injured, it said.
The team recovered a pistol and huge amount of drug from the spot.
Meanwhile, a suspected drug trader Ibrahim Hossain, 38, son of Israil Hossain, of Mohishalbari area in Rajshahi town, sustained bullet injuries in a reported gunfight with police in Sabdipur Brick Field area around 3:30 am.
Police recovered 500-gram heroin, a pistol and five round bullets from the spot, said senior assistant superin-tendent of Rajshahi Police Abdur Razzak, also the spokesman of the district police.
The injured was undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, he said.
