Khagrachhari: Incessant rainfall over the last three days led to severe flooding causing many areas were ma-rooned causing acute suffering to the people.
In most places transportation remained suspended and many landslides on the hill faces destroyed many houses in different areas.
More than 500 families remain trapped in the waterlogged areas while another 500 families took shelter in dif-ferent shelter houses.
Non-stop rain marooned parts of Muslimpara, Ganjapara, Santinagar, Bangalchhari, Golabari, Kamalchhari and many places of Sadar upazila and its adjacent areas.
Meanwhile, in Merong union 500 families of five villages remain trapped in an area cut off by flood water where educational institutes had to shut down.
Rain-fed rivers in the region burst their banks swamping the low-lying areas where transportation between Khagrachhari- Rangamati and Dighinala-Longadu were suspended due to flood.
Deputy Commissioner of the district Md Rashedul Islam said if the rain continues for another few days it may cause huge landslides in the district.
