Moulvibazar: The much-awaited second tea auction centre of the country is all set to start its activity from Monday at Khan Tower in Moulvibazar of Sreemangal.
Bangladesh Tea Board Chairman Major General Md Jahangir Al Mustahidur Rahman will begin the auction around 8:30 am.
Later at 2 pm, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed will officially inaugurate the auction through video confer-ence from his ministry office in the capital.
The auction will be followed by a cultural program to be held around 6:30pm where Commerce Secretary Shubhashish Basu will be present.
Jahar Tarafdar, member secretary of Tea Planters and Traders Association of Bangladesh (TTAB) in Sreeman-gal said more than 5 lakh kilograms of tea will be presented for the auction on the first day.
The expected price of the tea is around Tk11 crore, he added.
A total of twelve brokerage firms and more than 200 auctioneers are expected to participate in the auction.
