The Cantonment Bill placed in JS

A bill titled 'The Cantonment Bill, 2017' was placed in Parliament on Tuesday for incorporating tougher pun-ishment for delaying the construction of buildings and breaking traffic rules in cantonment areas.
Law Minister Anisul Huq placed the bill in the House and it was sent to the respective parliamentary standing committee for further scrutiny.
The amount of various fines and fees for 43 different subjects, including exceeding the deadline of building construction, violation of traffic rules, begging with distorted organs, carrying arms and firecrackers in the areas under Cantonment Board, have been substantially increased from the ones described in the 90-year-old law.
There is a provision of up to Tk 20,000 as fine for delaying the construction works of any building for more than thrice while the amount will be up to Tk 50,000 for delay for more than five times.
For illegal construction of any establishment, maximum Tk 50,000 and minimum Tk 20,000 could be fined un-der the draft law while the amount of fine for digging in roads in the cantonment areas is maximum Tk 10,000.
Besides, for driving vehicles on the wrong side violating traffic rules in the cantonment areas the minimum fine will be Tk 2,000 and maximum Tk 5,000.
A provision of maximum Tk 10,000 and minimum Tk 3,000 fine is also in the draft law for putting obstruction to any work of the government in the cantonment areas.
Under the proposed law, drunkenness, begging, gambling as well as movement keeping uncovered the injuries and distorted organs of the body and openly carrying meat will also be considered as punishable offence.
For such offences, up to Tk 20,000 could be fined.
