Issuing a note of warning, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Wednesday said action will be taken against the millers if they are found involved in creating artificial rice crisis in the country.

Tofail said there is enough rice in the country and the government is importing more to replenish the stock.
Replying to a query about India's ban on the rice export to Bangladesh, he said he has no information about it. "If there's any ban, we'll take measures in this regard."
About the skyrocketing prices of rice, the minister claimed that there is no unusual hike in the rice prices in the local market and the prices will see a cut in few days.
Referring to a report published in a newspaper on the rice shortage, he said there is no shortage of rice in the market and the report published in the newspaper will encourage the millers and syndicates to create an artificial crisis.
